The Nine-Eyed Agate: A Conversation with Jangbu

The Nine-Eyed Agate: A Conversation with Jangbu
Saturday, June 11, 2011

Join us as we celebrate the publication of the most recent work by one of Tibet’s most influential poets, Jangbu (Dorji Tsering Chenaktsang), and catch a sneak preview of his upcoming documentary Precious Caterpillar. The Nine-Eyed Agate: Poems and Stories (Lexington, 2010) features English translations of Jangbu’s works by Dr. Heather Stoddard, of the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Cultures, Paris.

Jangbu and Dr. Stoddard will discuss Jangbu’s poetic vision, style, and process, as well as the art of translation. Following a short break, Jangbu will give a special sneak preview of his current film project, the documentary Precious Caterpillar, a look at the social and environmental implications of the harvesting of yartsa gunbu—the much sought-after caterpillar fungus—on the Tibetan Plateau.

Book Launch: 3:00–4:30 PM

Preview of Precious Caterpillar: 5:00–7:00 PM
