undergraduate scholarships

undergrads in a brainstrming session

Undergraduate scholarships are available both to current-year graduates from Trace Foundation partner Senior middle-schools through the Senior Middle School Graduates College Scholarship (SMSG CS) and to currently enrolled undergraduates in selected institutions through the Institutional Meritorious Impoverished Student Award (IMISA). Trace Foundation no longer accepts direct applications from individuals for support at the undergraduate level.

Senior Middle School Graduates College Scholarship (SMSG CS)

This is a special scheme to support current-year graduates of high schools that we have partnered with in our regional education projects during their first year of undergraduate study. In 2007, 294 graduating students from 19 different senior middle schools received scholarships to continue their education at a higher level. Current-year graduates of partner senior middle schools are eligible to apply. Further information and application materials will be distributed through the partner schools, which currently include:

The amount of individual awards will generally not exceed 3,000 RMB. Due to limited resources, we cannot accept applications from individual senior middle school graduating students outside the participating schools listed above. (Other facts: 551 Scholarships have been awarded to senior middle school graduates since the inception of the project in 2005.)

Institutional Meritorious Impoverished Student Award (IMISA)

Through block grants to key regional partner institutions, Trace Foundation offers one-year scholarships to meritorious impoverished undergraduate students in the second year of their undergraduate studies and above. Further information and application materials will be distributed through the partner institutions, which currently include:

Trace Foundation is planning to expand this scheme to other institutions that have a large number of undergraduate students from Tibetan areas. In 2007, Trace Foundation's IMISA enabled 176 outstanding Tibetan-medium students to continue their undergraduate studies. The amount of individual awards varies, according to the guidelines established in cooperation with the partner institutions, but generally does not exceed 1000 RMB/year. Due to limited resources, we cannot accept applications from currently enrolled individual undergraduate students outside this scheme.
