projects: rural development

On the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau a variety of factors converge to hold rural communities in poverty. Projects in rural development focus on the interrelated areas of education, income generation, and healthcare, and seek to meet the challenges and opportunities posed by the unique situation of Tibetan communities in China. Trace Foundation's rural development strategies include vocational training and the introduction of culturally and environmentally appropriate technologies.

Rural development projects foster the ability of these communities to maintain the unique and vibrant cultural landscape of the plateau while, at the same time, meet the challenges posed by the emerging world economy. Trace Foundation seeks to allow local communities to make decisions about maintaining traditional ways of life out of genuine choice, rather than dire necessity.
