The Byara Database

Bibliographic Source for Tibet-Related Periodicals in the People’s Republic of China

What is Byara?

The aim of Byara Database is to provide Tibetologists and other researchers around the world with a searchable database by which they can easily familiarize themselves with secondary research in Tibetan language by scholars and researchers in the People's Republic of China (PRC).

This resource serves three objectives:

  1. to increase awareness of research being undertaken by scholars in the PRC;
  2. to enhance the possibilities for scholarly exchange in the Tibetan academic community;
  3. to encourage the use of the extensive periodical holdings at Latse Library.

Currently the Byara Database includes over 12,000 bibliographic entries of articles published in Tibetan. Most titles are translated into English, and keywords have been added to enhance the search capacity of the database. Many of the abstracts have also been translated into English.

Using Byara

Users may perform direct searches of journals (by author, title, keyword, journal name, and so on), or browse records from individual issues. Please select your preferred method from search buttons below.

Byara Database entries use the Wylie transliteration system (do not include hyphens for proper nouns).
